This really becomes difficult with all the schedules--soccer practice, piano lessons, meetings, etc. Maybe start with one meal a week that everyone has to attend???

I have laid down the law in my household and demanded family meals a couple of times a week. I confess, I am as much of a culprit as my kids, with my crazy work hours. But my oldest is going back to college in 5 days, and the time for full family meals has gotten very short. They are worth all the effort and planning!
(Of course, having steaks or the family recipe for lasagne helps lure them in, too!) |

When our family was young, which was eons ago,we tried to take family members schedules into account to have flexable times for dinner to have the most meal times together. Sometimes the schedule wound not bend enough to accomodate everyone. In a larger family sometimes those meals with only a couple of family members can be made memorable also.

I try to plan ahead to make sure dinner is something quick and easy on the busy nights and save the full-course meals for nights when everyone is home at the same time. Sundays usually work well for family dinners!
